Over the past 3 years I have had 4 surgeries, the three most recent ones within 6
months of each other. I always vowed that I would never allow injuries or surgeries to
define me. This is of course, easier said than done. I am reminded now more than ever,
that rehabilitation is not only about an exercise program, it is a mind-body process. In
fact, I would go so far as to say that exercises are secondary to mindset. It has not been
easy bouncing back and returning to Pilates and all the activities that I love. I can say,
without a doubt, that if it was not for BASI Pilates (not all Pilates is equal), I would not be
doing what I am doing. Period!
During this time, I looked back on my 45-year career and felt that the purpose of the
thousands of hours of practice and exploration was somehow to prepare me to take on
these challenges later in life. Now, as I emerge from the fog of the past surgeries, I
recognize that I have gone through a transformation. I see things differently and, in
some ways, more clearly. I would like to share some of the lessons I have learned. I
hope to offer you practical tools and insights that will bring depth and clarity to your own
practice. In many ways, this is a retrospective of BASI and its continued evolution.
